Designing UI for Sphere’s curved screen introduced distortion—straight lines appeared warped, and elements shifted unpredictably. I built a plugin that pre-distorts UI assets, allowing designers to work normally while ensuring visuals render accurately on the immersive surface.

Challenge

Challenge

The Sphere’s curved screen warped standard UI—straight lines appeared bent, creating visual discontinuity where some elements looked normal and others didn’t.

Solution

Solution

I built a custom plugin that pre-distorted UI elements by virtually projecting them onto the Sphere’s curved surface. This curved/bent version, when rendered on the 16K display, appeared visually straight and consistent. By adding the corrected UI to the game’s screen space, we ensured clean, legible visuals across the entire display.

Impact

Enabled faster workflows across design and engineering by eliminating manual distortion fixes. The tool was adopted across departments, including for the U2 concert, helping teams prototype and deploy clean, immersive UI at scale.
